Diet

Obviously, a Guinea pigs diet is very important. I have found a good diet for my guinea pigs which works for me and them.

Meal 1:

6:30am - Pellets

I feed my guinea pigs the Pets at home pellets which they really like and i think they're a good choice of pellet as they have many of the significant nutrients and elements that guinea pigs need to stay healthy, and they must taste good because the bowl is always empty! I feed them a table spoon and a half each.

Meal 2:

4:00pm - First veggie meal of the day!

This meal consists of veggies which are not leafy greens. It will contain: Bell peppers, cucumber and carrots daily which are accompanied by veg or fruit that is fed less often such as other things like Broccoli, apple, corn ect. I often like to hand feed this meal as it is a good way to bond with your guinea pigs.

Meal 3:

8:00pm - Second veggie meal of the day!

They get there leafy greens in this meal. I usually feed differnt types lettuce (Not Iceberg!), spring greens and kale as the main base of the meal, I will usually add other leaves to this meal, the most common ones i feed are: spinich (small amount), wild rocket leaves and dandelion leaves or other herbs. I usually scatter this meal out around the cage and let the guinea pigs find it!

Hay is also very important in their diet. Hay makes up 80% of a guinea pigs diet and should have access to hay 24/7.

Your Guinea pigs should also always have access to fresh water, in a bottle or a bowl.

I like to scatter forage around the cage as a treat for the guinea pigs to find and work for their food. This is a good excersize to do because it's enrichment for the guinea pigs and keeps them intrested and prevents them from getting bored. I also leave a herb plant in their cage which they can reach, but not easily, this means that they have to work for their food and the plant doesn't get destroyed straight away!
